He reportedly filed 34 cases against the makers. Many people even demanded to stop the screening of the film. Salma Agha had received threats

But, these protests had a huge impact on the normal life of the stars playing lead roles in the film. All this had escalated to such an extent that actress Salma Agha started receiving threats. He was harassed a lot. According to IMDb, Amrita Singh's mother Rukhsana Sultan highly recommended B.R. Chopra to cast Amrita Singh in the film. But, they were looking for a new face for this. For this reason he signed Salma Agha. This made Sultana very angry. Meanwhile, threatening letters and phone calls started harassing Salma. As a threat, he was instructed to return to London. Also, if they did not do so, they were warned of facing serious consequences. But, showing courage, he ignored all this. All these letters were reportedly found with Amrita Singh. But, no charges were filed against him.

'Nikah' was made with a budget of Rs 4 crore

Despite all this, this film was released. And, to watch the film, there used to be long queues of people standing outside the theaters for tickets. At that time, this film, made with a budget of Rs 4 crore, had collected Rs 9 crore. With this, it was included in the list of highest grossing films of 1982. Along with the picture, Salma Agha also became an overnight star.
